World
Population Day 2006
July 11 marks World Population
Day worldwide. The day was first commemorated
in 1987 when the world’s population
reached five billion. But population is more
than just numbers. It is the story of women
and their families throughout the world. What
can we do to ensure that today’s girls—part
of the world’s three billion young people—are
able to grow up to fulfill their dreams free
from the constraints of poor health, poverty
and inequality? Read
this commentary by Yolonda C. Richardson.
