On and off since 1997, I've researched my family tree. This research has taken me to libraries and courthouses across Virginia, driving windy back country roads and hiking through parks and traversing friendly backyards searching for ancestral homes and cemeteries.
Like nearly all Americans, my history involves immigrants from Irish (1800s to Scottish (1700s) to French (1600s). And recently I discovered that my ancestors were members of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation in Connecticut.
Now that I'm married, I like to spend time researching my husband's family tree. His ancestors offer a different immigration challenge, as they all came from Cuba, the Canary Islands, Greece, and Serbia in the 20th century.
